On the Canary Islands it is Tuesday, January 6th 2009, 1:02 hours pm
La Palma is one of the smaller of the Canary Islands. It’s situated at the northwest of the Canary archipelago, with a surface area of 706 square kilometres and a population of only 80,000. La Palma is known as La Isla Bonita, because of its extraordinary natural beauty. The highest point of the island is the Roque de los Muchachos (2426 m), the location of the astronomical observatory. La Palma does not have a large tourist base, which makes it the perfect place to get away.
